Every year Accelerated Genetics awards scholarships to youth both just entering and already enrolled in college and that are studying in the agricultural field. Youth are the foundation of the future of the agricultural industry and Accelerated Genetics wants to ensure that the next generation is well prepared.

Four $500 scholarships are awarded to youth just graduating from high school and beginning college. The 2010 recipients are Cassandra Chittenden of Schodack Landing, New York; Andrea Pagenkopf of Lancaster, Wisconsin; Michell Wedig of Darlington, Wisconsin; and Briar Jeg of Chehalis, Washington.

Chittenden plans to attain a bachelor’s degree in animal science at Cornell University. While in college Chittenden hopes to obtain many internships to find where exactly she will fit within the dairy industry. One thing that is concrete in her future is that it will always include a dairy cow.

Pagenkopf would like to continue to help others with their animal care needs within a rural community. She plans to attend the University of Wisconsin–Platteville to study pre-veterinary medicine and then go on to veterinary school.

Wedig has the dream and goal of becoming a large animal veterinarian and owning his own practice specializing in dairy and beef cattle. Wedig has been accepted to the University of Wisconsin–Platteville where he plans to earn a bachelor’s degree in animal science/pre-veterinary medicine and then go on to veterinary school.

Jeg plans to attend the Oregon State University and major in animal science. After graduating from college, Jeg wants to become and active member of the dairy industry as a dairy producer and be an influence on dairy youth.

Two $1,000 scholarships are awarded to students currently enrolled in agricultural programs at college. Accelerated Genetics works with the National FFA organization to select these students and the 2010 recipients are Amy Kringle of Barron, Wisconsin, and Elizabeth Olson of Hutchinson, Minnesota.

Kringle is attending the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She is majoring in food science and technology. Olson is majoring in animal science at the University of Minnesota.

Eligible candidates or their parents must be customers of Accelerated Genetics and be pursuing a degree in an agricultural field. Applicants are evaluated on their leadership, scholarship and involvement in agriculture.
